For a commute, 18 to 22 litres. For a long weekend, 32 litres. For a working week, 45. Every litre figure on this site is measured to the closed line rather than stuffed, so they are comparable with each other and with anyone else who measures the same way. The capacity guide sets it out with dimensions.
It is at the limit. The body is 54 × 30 × 28 cm, which is within the common 55 × 40 × 20 cm allowance on width and height but over on depth once it is packed. Budget airlines measure depth. If you fly with them often, take the 32 L.
Canvas if the bag will get wet, knocked and re-waxed once a year. Leather if you want it to look better in five years than it does now and you will keep it out of sustained rain. Canvas is also about 400 g lighter at the same capacity.
The Fell, the Carrow and the Tarn all have padded compartments rated for 16 inches. The Brae takes 14, the Avon 14 and the Wick 13. Totes have no padded sleeve at all — a laptop will fit in the Harlow laid flat, but unprotected.
About once a year with normal use, or whenever water stops beading on the surface and starts soaking in. We sell the wax at cost, and we will do it for you for €22 if you would rather not.
No, and we will not claim it. Waxed canvas is water-repellent: it shrugs off a shower and a downpour will eventually get through the seams and the zip. Nothing with a coil zip and stitched seams is waterproof.
Because vegetable-tanned leather is dyed as a hide, not printed, and every hide takes the dye slightly differently. Two bags cut a month apart can be half a shade off. It evens out as both darken.
Vegetable-tanned leather darkens and softens rather than cracking, provided it is conditioned once or twice a year and dried naturally if it gets soaked. Drying it on a radiator is the one thing that will ruin it, and that is not covered.
Before 14:00 CET on a working day, the same afternoon. After that, the next morning. You get tracking as soon as the label is printed.
To the UK, Switzerland and Norway. Import duty and local VAT are charged by the carrier on delivery in those three — the price here does not include them. We do not currently ship further than that.
Until it is dispatched, which is usually the next morning. Email us and we will catch it if it has not gone.
Yes. Recycled card, paper tape, paper void fill. The dust bag inside is cotton.
45 days from delivery, for any reason, provided the item is unused and complete. That is longer than the 14 days the law requires.
You do, unless the item was faulty or we sent the wrong thing — then we do, both ways.
5 years on stitching, zips and hardware, including return postage. It does not cover wax wearing thin, leather darkening or canvas fading, because those are the materials working normally. The full terms are written out here.
Yes, at a quoted price — and we will tell you if the repair costs more than the bag is worth. Prices are listed on the guarantee page.
